Info: A true entrepreneur transformed his love for film into an online empire. Doug Walker, a.k.a Nostalgia Critic, is That Guy with The Glasses. With movies like Mortal Kombat and Kazaam, Nostalgia Critic offers painfully entertaining reactions to awful films of the late 80’s and the 90’s. And it doesn’t stop here. He hired an army of like-mind individuals like Nostalgia Chick, Linkara, SpoonyOne, Marz Gurl, Sage, and so much more. This cynical band of reviewers rip apart every inch of popular media from movies to comics to pop music and more.

Siskel and Ebert: At the Movies

Roger Ebert’s Official Site: http://www.rogerebert.suntimes.com
Info: To me, Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert are the original movie masters. They paved the way for the modernized critics I mentioned above. Siskel and Ebert are a power duo of producing blunt, academic, and entertaining reviews. I even watched their segments as a child and found myself paying very close attention to what they say about my favorite movies at the time, and guess what! I caught myself chuckling at many of their critiques, especially North starring Elijah Wood. What makes Siskel and Ebert funny goes back to the brilliance of true honesty. Whether positive or negative, they justify their opinions with discrete insight of the film and keep to their opinions. They don’t back down! This makes for a lot of friendly banter between them.

Stand Up: Never Scared
Info: Great comedians have an uncanny ability to make you aware of yourself and the world around you while still making you roll on the floor laughing. Great comedians are brilliant. They are geniuses. Chris Rock is one of the Greats, and in his stand up routine he offers a straight-forward perspective on politics, mainstream music, family connections, wealth, and so much more. It is impossible to sit through any of his routines without bringing yourself to tears.
Bias Favorite: “The Number One reason why people hate America is because of our religion. Americans worship MONEY! On your money it says, ‘In God We Trust.’ All my life I’ve been looking for God, and he’s right here in my pocket.”
Stand Up: The Beginning
Info: Ellen is another one of the Greats. She is very conversational with her opinion, yet her whimsical voice and animated approach builds a roar of laughter. She juggles back and forward between topics of consciousness and ego, with subjects on sexuality, acknowledging the planet, virtue of silence, inner child…and that’s just the beginning.
Bias Favorite: “Someone’s talking to me, I’m there for as long as I can possibly hold on, and then I just driiiiiiiiiiiiiift off. I don’t know where I go, but I’m not here. There’s just a mouth moving in front of me now. I have no clue as to what they’re saying. And then I realize I’m gone, and I don’t know how long I’ve been gone. So I start to come back, and I catch the word leotard, and I’m like, *What the F***! And, I’m back.
Info: I initially thought, a mature play that mashes puppets, puppeteers, singing, dancing while stringing along a parody about life after college seems like a recipe for disaster. Then after I opened my mind to the possibility, I discovered a wickedly funny Broadway play. The writing is daring and witty and the performances are fun and animated. The unorthodox nature of this theatrical comedy definitely makes it a gem. Very original! Very funny! Very relatible!
Bias Favorite: “Purpose! It’s that little flame that lights fire under your a**. Purpose! It keeps you going to strong like a car with a full tank of gas.”

Info: Laughter is universal! Here’s a taste of the wonderful Japanese television show called Utaban where hosts Takaaki Ishibashi and Masahiro Nakai promote popular singing idols like Morning Musume while making fun of them. Many of the idols who were easily overlooked by lead vocalists found popularity by contributing to the comedy routine of the show. It’s a fun combination of pop music, gossip, blunt jokes, and innocent pranks.
Bias Favorite: Utaban Shuffle Special: 2001.July.17th : 3nin Matsuri, 7nin Matsuri, and 10nin Matsuri.
Info: Remember, laughter is universal! Star King is a Korean spice variety show that features pure talent and pure craziness, and I am not exaggerating. This show exposes talent from across the globe while having the local pop stars like Super Junior and F(x) interact with the performers from the sidelines. This causes for many zany stunts, priceless reactions, and a bottle full of laughs.
